This is
the freeware Windows section. Here you can find
freeware Boulderdash
games that run in Microsoft Windows (an Operating System).
Microsoft Windows is a range of commercial
operating environments for personal computers. The range was first
introduced by Microsoft in 1985 and eventually has come to dominate the
world personal computer market. All recent versions of Windows are
fully-fledged operating systems. This applies to desktop and lap top computers even if they are
refurbished laptops.
As long as they run in Microsoft windows the games will run, if they
run in a Linux or Mac OS these games will not run, but you can look
into my other sections for games that will!
Below are the Windows
games. Download them and enjoy!

A
simple Czech Boulderdash clone with the same objects as in the original
Boulder Dash. It has been created in the game creating program Game
Maker. It is not possible to 'snap' diamonds or sand beside you. To
save your game, press [F5] and to load it again, press [F6] when the
game is running.

The
sequel to Anakin's Boulder Dash (see above) with many more options:
snapping (by pressing [Shift] + an arrow key), free-look mode (by
pressing [Control] + an arrow key), time limit, bigger game sprites and
new levels in three different levels (easy, medium, hard).

A
cute little Boulderdash clone about a mother ant who has to
rescue
her babies inside an ant-hill. At least, I guess that the main
character is the mother and the little ants at the end of each level
are her infants. The queer thing of this game is, that you don't need
to collect the diamonds in order to finish the level and that piles of
boulders don't collapse.

BD4
is an Emerald Mine clone with its original graphics, only a bit
smaller. The levels always fit to the screen, so you can't play this
game in scrolling mode. The game is internet-based and it can be played
with other players. With the game, there comes a level
editor.

A
simple Boulderdash clone in which you have to collect bottles of the
well-known Czech Becherovka bitter. In the main menu you can select
different difficulties. The background music is gay, but the sounds are
of a rather poor quality. The game is Czech.

An
accurate clone with the same levels as the original but with better
graphics and sounds. The menu song is a remix of the original tune by
David Filskov. There is also a separate level editor to create your own
levels!

Inspired
by the game 'Blitz Boulders', Blainiac maybe even exceeds it. It has a
nice gameplay with nice sounds and music. The main character is a guy
with a helmet and the dirt is blue instead of brown in this
clone.

A
good Boulderdash clone that resembles Rocks 'n' Diamonds (in some
respects, for Rocks 'n' Diamonds is much more comprehensive). The
levels can be played in any order if you wish to and the game speed is
adjustable. There seems to be a level editor out there, but I haven't
found it yet.

A
fast clone with scrolling levels and simple non-animated graphics. The
objects do not roll. Source code available. Unfortunately I cannot
start this game but you could try it. Just download the game and see if
it works!

This
is absolutely one of the most accurate clones of Boulder Dash,
containing the original sounds, graphics, levels and title screen. The
gameplay is smooth but in the style of the original. You can make your
own levels with the integrated level editor.

Another
Boulder Dash clone with quite a similar gameplay to the original. It
includes a level editor. See the Instructions file which goes along
with the game (once it has been installed on your PC) to see which keys
you need to use. For a very similar game, have a look at the game
'Digger for .NET' by Brian Long (see below).

A
cheerful Russian clone featuring a kind of orange with a face, arms and
legs. The sounds are also nice. New levels can be created with a level
editor (also in Russian) that comes with the game. There are actually
two versions of this game: the old version (v1.5), which is windowed
and has other graphics (such as purple dirt) and the new version
(v1.67) which is fullscreen and has other graphics (green dirt for
example) and different levels plus the original Boulder Dash levels,
which the old version does not have. Download the old version (v1.5)

In
Cave Chaos, you have to collect jewels and deposit them in the
whirlpools. It is a very unique Boulderdash game with e.g. rocks that
can be pushed through the sand. There are no sounds, but the game has
background music. The speed and the level difficulty can be adjusted in

A
great German Boulderdash clone with jolly sounds and music. It was
designed by the Citibank in Germany. There are four episodes (Im Eis,
Klondike, New York, Mars), each consisting of fifteen levels, plus some
Tutorial levels. Create your own levels with the level editor. Because
the game is in German, here are the instructions for the level editor:
Once
you have opened the level editor, you can select tiles by pressing the
right mouse button on the game field. To show all objects from an
episode, press the tab key. To save your level, go to the 'Spiel' menu
and click 'Level abspeichern'.

Crystal

DX
Boulderdash is a great PC remake of the games Boulder Dash and Emerald
Mine, which were both for the Amiga. The graphics, sounds and levels
are the same as in the Amiga version. The game looks really good.
Unfortunately, the game development has
stopped, but the game is still very playable. There is a newer version,
called 'DX-Diggem' (due to legal action by First Star Software), which
you can download from the special DX-Boulderdash page. Download a level

Please contact me if you know more about this game.

A
nice military-themed Boulderdash game with nice sounds and music. It
also includes a two player mode (brotherhood and deathmatch). You can
earn money by collecting diamonds and with that money you can buy
yourself new weapons!

A
very basic clone without frills and with only sound effects. It does
not have fluent scrolling, but it does have animations. It's a game by
the maker of DHTML Boulderdash (see
this
page).

A
Repton 3 clone that was originally written for Linux, but is now
available for Windows. Download the source code
here.

An
unfinished 3D Boulderdash clone with 30 levels over 16 themed worlds.
The camera moves with you while you walk. Gemstorm is inspired by the
game 'Riptoff' and has the same levels.

A
good-looking Boulderdash clone with big sprites in which you control
Yaaboo. It features
great multiplayer modes. The original MS DOS version was superseded by
the DirectX (Windows) version. Unfortunately, this game has not been
finished, but is very playable, though.

HamsterJam
is a good Windows remake of the Commdore Vic20 game 'Rockman' by
Mastertronic (1995). You play with Sniffles, a funny cartoonish hamster
and you have to collect rings. The levels are identical with the
original game's levels but the graphics have been adapted into bright,
colourful cartoon graphics to bring it into the modern age. The game
rules are a bit different from Boulder Dash. For example, the rings
don't fall from the rocks when there is space beside them.

High
Carats is a nice Boulder Dash clone by Zimond Remakes. It has new
graphics, sounds and music but stays very close to the original Boulder
Dash. It has some special features. You can import your own graphics,
music and sounds in the Media Editor. Besides you can create new
objects or modify existing objects in the Object Editor! And new levels
can easily be created with the Level Editor!
Go
to High Carats' own page!

A
Czech clone with a dog as main character. No fullscreen mode, no music
and no animations make this game a simple game, but still it's nice. It
includes a game recorder. Download a level editor
here.

Can
you remember Heartlight, the classic game with Percival the dwarf, by
Epic Megagames? LightHeart 2005 is a good remake with the same gameplay
and with a moderner look, which is intensified by the background music,
sounds and the flexible gameplay. The graphics are new, but if you have
played Heartlight, you will recognize everything of the old game in
this new adaptation (except the hero Percival, who has been replaced by
a dull orange...)! There is one disadvantage: the player walks jerkily,
which could have been more fluent, but you will get used to it after
having played the game for some time. Download
Gilby's
Level Pack, unpack it to the LightHeart 2005 directory and
have fifteen extra levels to play!

MegaPlex
is more like a tool for fans than a clone. It's a Windows version of
the original Supaplex with the same source code. Original Supaplex
level formats can be loaded, new levels can be designed, games can be
recorded, etc. The speed is adjustable. The game can only be played in
windowed mode, but you can zoom in the levels. For more information and
additional levels have a look at the
Classic
Supaplex page.

A
currently unfinished German clone only
one enemy type and only ten levels. The objects fall quite slow and
there are no animations in the game. When killed, the player
says something rude. It is possible to save and load your game.
Download a level editor
here.
The creator has also created a small design for a Boulderdash game in
QBasic in 2002. Find it at the
Fan Stuff page.

Natto-Cat
(formerly known as 'Rockhunt') is a frivolous, funny game about a cat
which
has to retrieve a required number of cat snacks, walking
through 'natto' (a
Japanese term for fermented beans) in order to activate the exit
elevator and leave the level. On its journey this cat meets many
dangers, such as falling dried plums and exploding bowls with
custard. It is possible to play the levels on a different difficulty
level and the game supports native Boulder Dash files (download them
from the
Classic Boulder Dash
page).
With the game, there also comes a level editor to create your own
levels! This game is a unique interpretation of Boulder Dash which is
worth looking at!
Go to
Natto-Cat's own page!

New
Supaplex is the perfect solution for everyone who adored Supaplex, but
cannot play it anymore because the game is getting too old. It has new
and better graphics, nice sound effects, a great support of music
formats for the background music, a game recording function and it can
load the original Supaplex levels. That means hours of fun with this
superb game! Download extra level collections from the
Classic Supaplex page.

Rocks
'n' Diamonds (RnD) is absolutely the most comprehensive Boulderdash
game around. In fact, this is not a clone but a game wherein you can
play different Boulderdash games. Besides the four classic games
Boulder Dash, Emerald Mine, Sokoban (officially not a Boulder Dash
clone) and Supaplex you can play in this great game, you can also
select elements from the games Diamond Caves II and DX-Boulderdash in
the level editor. Versions above v3.1.0 are not for MS DOS anymore, but

A
very unique, commercial looking Boulderdash clone with highly polished
graphics and good background tunes especially composed for this game. A
hedgehog-like character called Tresher has to collect unids (with a

original Boulder Dash, such as sokoban elements, gnats, bombs, etc.
Players can create their own levels with the very advanced level editor

A
distinctive German Boulderdash clone with a green alien who has to
collect a green mushroom. The enemies can't be crushed, but you can
throw a boulder onto their heads so they can't move anywhere.

A
cheerful Russian Supaplex clone with cheerful music and adjustable
speed. It can load native Supaplex levels, but you have to rename them
to 'Levels.dat' and overwrite the 'Levels.dat' file in the main
directory of the game. Observe that Murphy (the orange main character)
can't go upwards when the gravity is turned on. Therefore, some native
Supaplex level collections are not solvable.

An
Italian Boulder Dash game with graphics from the Japanese comic series

A
Czech Boulderdash clone with apples instead of diamonds.

A
clone of the game Stone Age. Control Willi through the caves and eat
the cabbages. It's a very basic and simple game. Piled up rocks don't
fall and you can't walk under a falling rock. And there are no
animations, either. You can move diagonally. The download above is the
full commercial version, but the author decided to make the game
freeware, so you don't have to pay any money for it.

In
this funny German game, you have to dig through the earth with Zworx, a
little gnome, to find gold to refill the royal treasury of the king,
who has lost all of his gold. Better digging equipment can be found
during your journey through the earth. The game was written to promote
the German Lotto company Westlotto.
