How to reset all settings?

Post by Vikits »

When I opened the new emerald mine collection I recall the view being different. But now after I messed up with some graphics / game engine settings, the level uses r'n'd graphics set and has a thin toolbar on bottom which is not how I remember the leveset when I opened first time. How do I reset all settings? Where does r'n'd store its settings. I'm using windows 11 64 bit.

Check the custom artwork settings. If you have "Override level graphics" set as Yes, then that's probably the problem, because it should be No to always have whatever artwork levelset uses. And same for music and sound overrides as well.

Thanks. It worked. Seems I had set it to yes while messing around.

Just another (a bit late) answer to the original question: To reset all settings, first find the place where R'n'D stores them -- it's the folder "Rocks’n’Diamonds" in your "Documents" folder when using Windows.

To really reset everything, just like it was right after the first installation of the game, just (temporarily) rename that folder to something else (like "Rocks’n’Diamonds.tmp"). However, this will also make all your additionally installed (or self-created!) level sets inaccessible (and also all your recorded tapes and so on).

So, to only reset the main settings that can be found in the "setup" menu, just rename the file "setup.conf" to something else (like "setup.conf.tmp"). This will reset all settings to their default values. After changing some settings (forcing R'n'D to save the new settings), you can then compare the old and new settings file (they are simple text files) to find out what might have caused the problems (if you like).

BTW: Another very simple way to run R'n'D with default settings right from the game itself is to just switch to a different user by clicking on your user name in the main menu! This will change your user to the new one, which starts with default settings. You can then easily switch back to your previous user by just selecting it again.
