Hallo,
i installed the Rocks'n'Diamonds for Android, the game also runs without problems but the game-screen is very smal.
I use Rocks'n'Diamonds 4.3.8.2, my handy display is 16cm x 7cm. When i start the game, the game-scress is 7cm and 5,8cm in high. The felds for left, right, yes, no ect. are in the corner, thats ok.
When i turn the phone, unfortunately the screen does not rotate - then the game-screen would be a bit bigger.
Am i doing something wrong or do i need to adjust something to make the screen bigger or rotate it?
or is there an option in the settings to enlarge the screen?
i use Android 14

Hello quink,
regarding your problems with screen rotation: This is very strange. I also use a smartphone that is running Android 14 (Samsung Galaxy S22), and screen rotation works just fine.
However, this problem indeed existed some time ago with certain versions of R'n'D and Android. In fact, R'n'D always supported screen rotation, but starting with some version of Android some time (a few years) ago, this suddenly stopped working. I had do change the R'n'D app's "Android manifest" (a configuration file) to make it work again with recent versions of Android. And as far as I can tell, it still works with the latest Android version (which is Android 14, which is running on your and on my phone).
Does this problem also occur if you start the R'n'D app with the phone in landscape mode? (That is, does screen rotation not work, or does the app maybe only start in portrait mode?)
Could you please test if de-installation and re-installation of the R'n'D app solves this problem on your phone?
And could you please check if this problem also occurs on a second device running Android 14 (some other phone or tablet, for example)?
I really would like to know it I have to adjust the "manifest" file again to keep screen rotation working!
But another problem, of course, is the nearly square default screen ratio, so rotating to landscape mode only improves things a little bit. What I really should do is providing a different default graphics set for 16:9 screens, and set it to be used by default on Android (or, even better, after auto-detecting the screen aspect ratio). (Unfortunately, always using a dynamically sized graphics set that always fits the R'n'D screen to the device that is being used is nearly impossible, as there are quite some level sets with custom artwork that are based on this default screen ratio used by R'n'D since the very beginning in 1995... :-/ )

Re: Rocks'n'Diamonds for Android
Hallo Holger,
Thanks for your answer.
> Rotation problem .. is solved
My mistake, sorry. In the phone-settings, I found a rotation under expanded operation.
(i use a Xiaomi (nice China phone) with Android 14, but there android is called hyperos..)
>the game-screen
I once took pictures and uploaded.
picture 1 shows the game without rotation:

picture 2 shows the game when the screen is rotated:

The game in rotated is turned quite well. But I would have a suggestion for future Android versions:
>Additional options in the graphic setting game-menu:
* Rotating the game-screen: off / on: 90°, 270°
This point would turn the screen, optionally by 90° or 270°. This function has the advantage, then you can turn the game-screen when in the cell phone settings rotated is off.
I thought about turning the screen-rotation off after playing with rock diamonds on my cell phone settings. The rotation disturbs when using the cell phone.
Now I have to turn on every time i want to play rockndiamonds on the phone-settings..
So it would be practically in the game rockndiamond to have this function rotating the screen. If that is technically possible at all.
* Enlarging the screen: off / 2:1 / Fullscreen
It is the question of whether this is possible at all. Would the size of the game objects (Diamonds, Blocks, ect.) should be postponed in proportions? Or would it be so that when the screen is enlarged, the character is always that the character is always in the middle of the screen.
>old phones
I took the photos with an old LG cell phone. I still had that in a drawer..
Android V4.1.2. I tried around. The last Rockndiamonds version that runs there is Rocksnsdiamonds 4.1.4.1.
I'm happy that it runs on the old phone, even rotating the screen works.
But is there a reason why the new versions of Rocksndiamonds no longer support the Android V4.1.2 or is the Android V4.1.2 no longer support on the programming software?
Last, a very thank you to you Holger. Rocksndiamonds is one of the best games and for the phone and great for on the go. Thank you for the game !!
Thanks for your answer.
