This is the
freeware MS DOS section. Here you can find freeware Boulderdash games
that run in MS DOS (an Operating System).
MS
DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) is the Operating System software
developed for 16-bit Intel processors and shipped with the first IBM
PCs, and until the introduction of Microsoft Windows. DOS uses a
command-line user interface.
Because MS-DOS
was used on older PCs, the games designed for DOS don't work very well
on the modern PCs anymore. Especially Windows XP has a lot of problems
with them, because it does not have a DOS interface anymore. You could
try the
DOSGames.com Windows XP hints to
fix those problems. Another
option is using a DOS emulator like
DOSBox. That's a program to
imitate the old MS-DOS Operating System.
Below are the MS DOS
games. Download them and enjoy!

A
very basic Boulderdash clone without sounds but with animations. The
levels are different from the original Boulder Dash, so give this game
a try as well.
A
simple clone which resembles Repton a bit, with a somewhat queer story.
It is about Wendy, a mutant sized girl who keeps growing because of the
radio-active ingredients which Ronald McDonald has put in all his food!
You, as a very thin and skinny character, have got the task to take
away all this food, so that Wendy will be forced to go on a diet and
will finally become small enough to be captured! As a unique feature in
comparison with other Boulderdash games, you have different tools such
as a drill which you will come across on your path. Separately there
comes a level editor with the game.

A
scrolling clone without sounds. Objects roll off grass and the player,
and falling
diamonds are not deadly. Monsters come out of dropped eggs, as in
Repton. Elements include lava, collectable bombs and dynamite, conveyor
belts, and fiery wheels that can even kill monsters. Some levels have
diamond generators that must be blocked in order to collect all the
diamonds. The MS DOS version's EGA graphics were later updated to VGA.
The

version of the original Dot Valley game, but is almost the same.

If
you're looking for a PC version of Repton, this is a good game to start
with. It utilizes all the objects that appeared in Repton 3 and reads
original Repton 3 data files, so if you have some old levels, there is
no need to convert them for this game reads the level files in
perfectly. As far as I can see in the version on this website there is
only one bug, you can't die (but is that a bad thing? :) ). Sadly the
version here has only a dumb editor (for viewing levels only).
This
Repton clone was set to be one of the very best Repton clones around
until it came to a tragic end in 1999, when the source code was lost.
This game incorporates elements from both Repton 2 and Repton 3.
A
cancelled Repton 3 clone, written in QBASIC. It's still very playable.
The game was previously known as Repton 2000.
Rock
'n' Spin is a game in the same style as Repton 3 or Boulderdash. You
guide an Emu around in a tile-based map, collecting all the diamonds
and avoiding falling rocks and rampant spinners. Features include eight
different graphical themes, eleven music pieces, a replay function when
you die and much more! The game was previously shareware, but now, it's
free. Register it
here for free. Download a level
editor

RockRush
is an enhanced version of the old 8bit game Boulder Dash. It provides
all of the classic game elements and unlike the C64 version of Boulder
Dash, you can have slime AND amoeba in the same level. You can make
your own levels with the integrated level editor. Load it by pressing
F1 and F11 in the title screen.
Rocks
'n' Diamonds (RnD) is absolutely the most comprehensive Boulderdash
game around. In fact, this is not a clone but a game wherein you can
play different Boulderdash games. Besides the four classic games
Boulder Dash, Emerald Mine, Sokoban (officially not a Boulder Dash
clone) and Supaplex you can play in this great game, you can also
select elements from the games Diamond Caves II and DX-Boulderdash in
the level editor. Versions above v3.1.0 are not for MS DOS anymore, but
only for the other platforms.

Probe is a modern adaptation of the old Boulder Dash. You play with a
kind of ball through worlds with some interesting new objects you
didn't come across in the original Boulder Dash, like tenacious spikey
balls, zapper domes (change enemies into diamonds), hidden items, etc.
This
game, which is a very accurate clone of Boulder Dash, was previously
shareware, but now it's freeware. Very good if you prefer the
old Boulder Dash above the modern clones.
A
Boulderdash clone that was previously shareware. The graphics are
small, but fine. The levels can be played in any order and it is
possible to make your own levels with the level editor inside the game.
