Invalid links in Editor Tutorial

I was following the Custom Elements tutorial at
https://www.artsoft.org/rocksndiamonds/ ... orial.html and find mention of two links at the end of the page about CE Walkaround Text file and CE Walkaround level set. But the links point to a non existent site zomis.net. Can anyone share the files reference by those links and possibly update the links?

Hi Vikits, sorry for this documentation being quite old (nearly 20 years old now), so some links to external resources may be (or are) outdated or invalid. As most of the documentation is still very useful, I have decided to keep it despite these issues.
The two linked pages (with meta data) can still be found in the Wayback machine:
-
https://web.archive.org/web/20070520135 ... .php?f=416
-
https://web.archive.org/web/20070520023 ... .php?f=417
Unfortunately, the linked files to be downloaded were not archived.
I will have a look if I still have these files around in my personal R'n'D archive when I'm at home...

Thanks for your quick response. It would be really helpful if you can find and post them.
R'n'D Files Archive you linked really has some curious entries about custom elements usage and tricks (
https://web.archive.org/web/20070401033 ... fo.php?c=3). Sad it is not available anymore. I am trying to recreate some other games in R'n'D for fun and just discovering the power of Custom Elements.
On a sidenote, I initially thought ConfEdit was just a level editor / text editor. Now i see it used to supplement the R'n'D editor in regards to creating levels with Custom Elements where the built-in editor is not very optimal to use for advanced use cases. Lack of any modern alternatives really creates a barrier to explore R'n'D's advanced capabilities.

I have those zomis.net artifacts (and many others), saved from somewhere, I'm not sure where, in mid-2022. Actually I think I got them from a session of manual ad hoc scraping from web.archive.org, but have only vague memories and circumstantial evidence to support this :)
Holger, I think I've mentioned this before and offered to hand the pile of stuff off to you. If not (or if so!), I make that offer again... What I have are some 312 of the files from zomis.net, numbered from 3 to 733, plus metadata but not actual files of 56 more.

Oh, that's cool -- I thought that all these items were lost forever, as a result of a hard disk crash of Zomis's PC!

Cannot remember, but I am definitely interested to archive these goods! So if you could package and store it somewhere, and send me a download link, I would be happy to add it to my R'n'D archive!

Oh, could it be possible that you have already sent it to me? Just found two zip files, as follows:
Code: Select all
7551911 May 29 2022 rnd-files-archive-0-399.zip
7454040 May 29 2022 rnd-files-archive-400+.zip
Looks like it's what you just described! It contains directories with either only the meta data JSON file, or (if we are lucky) accomplished by a second file in zip format, like this:
Code: Select all
rnd-files-archive-0-399/00003/ric_random.zip
rnd-files-archive-0-399/00003/00003-metadata.json
And apparently we are lucky! It does contain the contents for IDs 416 and 417, which I have attached to this post!
Hope that helps!

Good to know! I wonder from where you got those files, as the Wayback Machine does not have them!
But I am happy that not all those R'n'D resources are lost (even if some of the files are missing)! Zomis collected a lot of interesting and useful stuff back in these days, and for whatever strange reason I never did a recursive download of his web site (which I usually do in such cases, like I did for Martijn's BD fan site back then, which also vanished later)...
I have now replaced the two broken links in the R'n'D tutorial page with local links to the files I attached to my last post.

Yes, that makes sense -- totally forgot about it!

I suggest you bust those out into a directory which responds to links in exactly the same format as they were on zomis.net, then there will be a simple 1:1 conceptual redirect from where they used to live to their new home...
