Make deleting custom levelsets much easier
Think of it like an button on the levelsets menu.
Re: Make deleting custom levelsets much easier
A button to delete custom level sets from the level editor would technically be possible, yes.
So far I just did not think of such a feature, or that it might be useful for somebody. But yes, while it is relatively easy to just delete the level set folder on classic operating systems like Linux, Windows or Mac, it is indeed much more complicated on Android, for example.

So, the idea is approved or not?Holger wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2026 5:02 pm A button to delete custom level sets from the level editor would technically be possible, yes.

Ideas don't have to be approved here.
Re: Make deleting custom levelsets much easier
My 5c worth: I'm opposed to being able to delete levels, let alone levelsets, from within the game. It's good that there are obstacles preventing one from deleting one's precious work! Sadly there are still ways of inadvertently losing one's work. I did once advocate for methods of preventing data loss, such as: auto-writing to a special levelset (or folder of levelsets) containing last-worked on levels - it would be a bit like logging of level scores / last-reached level etc, but driven from the editor, rather than the game.
Also, adding the levelset deletion feature would only be consistent if there was no longer any need to go into the file system to do other, more important tasks, such as creating a new levelset.
I think maybe it is now possible to creating a new levelset from a tab within dialog accessed via the CONF button, but I haven't changed to doing that way - if I want a new levelset, I:
- close RnD
- in File Explorer or Free Commander, create a new folder
- go into an existing levelset and open the levelinfo.conf file
- edit it to have the desired name
- save as the levelinfo.conf to the new folder
- restart RnD
Painful, but 100% reliable.

Why do you still do it manually if it is painful?I think maybe it is now possible to creating a new levelset from a tab within dialog accessed via the CONF button, but I haven't changed to doing that way - if I want a new levelset, I:

R'n'D can easily and comfortably do this for you!
Re: Make deleting custom levelsets much easier
Well, one reason is, RnD doesn't have the concept of capitalisation, but my file system does. So if I create a folder in File Explorer, I can name it from words joined together in Camel Case, or whatever it is (I try to minimize use of spaces in folder and file names), for example:
TheosTritch
or alternatively
TheOstritch
(You can't have both of these in one folder in Windows, but you can choose one or the other.)
This doesn't come through into RnD, no matter how I capitalize what I type into the levelinfo.conf file,
but at least I can see it in the file explorer.
If I create a new levelset in RnD,
- capitalisation is not considered, fair enough, since differently-capitalised letters cannot be entered.
- in fact, it doesn't base the foldername on the levelset name, but on the Windows username (when running on Windows)
-- fair enough, since the levelset name is taken from the levelinfo.conf file.
--- but people like to keep the levelset name and the folder name close, witness in the sample levelsets.
- it creates the levelset in the user's Documents\levels, rather than in the levels subfolder of the RnD executable (I am using the portable version).'
-- this is probably my most serious concern, and echoes a concern I have raised from time to time, which is that in the CONF screen, LEVELSET tab, the user is not shown the full path, but only the levelset folder on its own; this is a very odd design choice and seems deliberate, as if there is a desire to obscure the physical arrangement of the files?
-- I would say better to either give the user a choice of location or,
if there is a default, to default to the levels subfolder of the RnD executable, at least if using the portable version.
- the CONF screen, LEVELSET tab does not provide a means of setting the starting level, which instead has to be done by manually editing the levelinfo.conf file, if there is a wish to use a number other than the default of 1 - I use 0, and so I believe do the 100 sample levels which are meant to be conversions of the 20 levels in the original Boulderdash, multiplied by 5 levels of difficulty.
