Pause LET IT SNOW! When Pausing Game...

Post by BryanFRitt »

When it's snowing and the game gets paused, the snow currently keeps going. This can lead to feeling like the game isn't paused. The game would feel more paused if the snow would pause too while the game is paused.

There could also be an option to only have snow only appear when the game is not active to be more able to focus on the game. aka hide the snow when the game is in play, but show snow when in menus and when game is paused.

Code: Select all

SNOW OPTIONS
LET IT SNOW! AUTO/YES/NO <-- normally 'yes' comes before 'no' in English ?
[*] SHOW SNOW IN MENUS
[*] SHOW SNOW IN PAUSED GAMES
    [*] PAUSE SNOW WHEN GAME IS IN PAUSE STATE
[*] SHOW SNOW IN ACTIVE NON-PAUSED GAMES
The related options are currently at
Main Menu > SETUP > GRAPHICS > LET IT SNOW! > NO/YES/AUTO
Main Menu > SETUP > KEY SHORTCUTS > VARIOUS KEYS > START GAME & TOGGLE PAUSE:

More possible options

Code: Select all

[] show snow when R'n'D is minimized
	[] pause snow when R'n'D is minimized
[] show snow when R'n'D window is not active
	[] pause snow when R'n'D window is not active

While such options might be useful, I have the feeling that they are way too special for such a little easter egg (well, OK, wrong season).

So I think it should be sufficient to be able to simply deactivate it. At least to me, more sophisticated setup options seem to have the disadvantage of making the setup menu even more crowded and overloaded as it already is, but do not have sufficient advantages for most users.

But this is an interesting point:
AUTO/YES/NO <-- normally 'yes' comes before 'no' in English ?
I agree here, but the idea behind the current order (which wasn't randomly chosen) is that it is in fact "YES -> AUTO -> NO", as "AUTO" leads to a behavior somehow between "YES" and "NO" (that is, trying to guess what makes sense, like using custom artwork only if the selected level set does not have custom artwork defined by itself etc.). On the other hand "AUTO" is often the preferred setting (and the default in most cases where it is used), so the order "AUTO -> YES -> NO" might make sense, too...

Was this option recently removed from R'n'D? Can't seem to find it anymore.

Note: This could also go with other YES NO AUTO options...

"YES -> AUTO -> NO", yes it makes since that it's between a YES and a NO.
Although, since this wraps around, AUTO is always between a YES and a NO no matter where it is.
The only difference is basically which is to the left which is to the right of AUTO.*

[ pressing `right` ]
"YES -> AUTO -> NO -> ..." [ aka "AUTO -> NO -> YES -> ..." aka "NO -> YES -> AUTO -> ..." ]
or
"NO -> AUTO -> YES -> ..." [ aka " AUTO -> YES -> NO -> ..." aka " YES -> NO -> AUTO -> ..." ]

Basically, Which of these two orders do you like best?

*in general any of the 3 are between the other 2 options which could go in two possible orders

Have as much fun as you'd like, "even a stopped clock is right twice a day". :)
