: means two open eyes
; means two eyes with one closed, i.e. a wink

OK. It seems that there was just another reason created to use "ASCII smilies": To remind people that smilies already existed on text-only terminals in the Internet (Usenet, to be precise) long before the WWW was created... ;-)

A little look about this discussion told me I had to split it.

Lol, don't worry Holger Besides, there's no way to re-join threads in phpBB (yet... there will be when the new 3.0 comes out, or whatever version it is...)
