in the supaplex engine, enemies aren't rendered at the start of the level

i don't think it was always this way?

it still happens if quick menu doors is enabled and fade screens is disabled

Indeed, this is not how it should look like. :-o

I'm not sure at the moment if this problem was always present, or if it was introduced later by some other change; at least, a quick check reveals that this already exists as early as version 4.1.3.0. Not sure about older versions, but I will check (and fix) this.
