MM polarizers 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16

Post by Eizzoux »

Anyone wondered what even numbered polarizers are even about? I know they came from original MindBender, but... do they even have any functionality other than just to block a certain field of space?

Your observation is correct -- every second polarizer can never let the laser beam pass through.

I guess the reason why I built it that way in Mindbender back then (in 1988 or 1989, not totally sure at the moment) was that I wanted to have the same number of angles for them as for the rotatable mirrors.

But yes, all positions that are an odd multiple of 11.25° are effectively useless. :-)

Well, at least it's not the same for cross polarizers, they only have four angles available.
Also, perhaps, the polarizer "optimized" rotation (1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15 only) could be an option for custom levelsets? Just an idea
