After seeing Atomic Destruction Group's "Girls From The Block" 3-D Sokoban remake, I was wondering if Rocks N Diamonds could also be setup with a 3-D engine.

A good idea.... in the realms of fantasy

Reminded me of the 3D Repton remake: Repton Returns

Never tried it though, I didn't like Repton when it first came out.

lol, Holger would get crazy if he would read that. X-D
Good idea... well, perfect idea ! But it´s not really possible in RnD though...
Holger is also away, to read this (vacation). :)

My guess and wish is that RND will remain 2D.
3D would probably be waaaay to hard

i dont really like the sound of 3d... would kinda eliminate the whole *boulderdash* feel

and of course, the source code for r&d is freely distributed so if anyone wants it 3d, they have somewhere to start :-p

3D graphics are ok, but 3D engine with RnD would suck.

There exist one way how to do R'n'D in 3D:

All objects can be 3D.Like wall not simply object, but like box.

But it's really too hard...

Hi, Audrius!
If it is possible to make a 3D version of RnD, Who's going to take the
modelling, skinning, coding skills?

Skinning shouldn´t be hard... if you mean giving the elements textures...

And by the way... with 3D the whole line of sight would be perfect and the whole game would get more excellent ! :D

All the 3D field would only have to be x*y*1 (x map-width, y lenght, 1 is hight).

guess your going to have to wait till r&D version 94838.3 before it goes 3d

:D

im guessing it would need a near full code rewrite to get it fully 3d with layers

There exists one game like pac-man.I have it on two types:
in 2d and in 3d, but idea is the same....

Oh yes...

"RnD3D" or "Rocks n´ Diamonds 3D"

Anyways, there would be very much new ideas...
Line of sight
Sight perspective (like from diagonal top, rockford´s line of sight, rotatable sight)
More higher elements like 2 walls on each other
Explosion could make damage 3x3x3 or only 3x3x1
We all would know how to handle everything, like graphics, sounds, CE properties...

3D would be only perfect, though...

Yes, butif you're three-dimensionnaly surrounded by earth (imagine a cube of 3x3x3 of earth and rockford is in the center). How would you be able to see what you're doing ?

It's too bad, but maybe the BD-concept would be really hard to play in 3D. :-\

No, imagine you see everything from the top a bit diagonally.

Here are 2 perspectives I made now:

Good program, 3Dnow... :D

Anyways a game, that is in 2D and will get to 3D, is a perfect thing ! For example a game, that was only strategy, and becomes a 3D, you can see every objects and units from all perspectives ! Tip: The game is Starcraft and Starcraft: Ghost.
