If they're still posting a year ago, well -- that's 1000x more hopeful than if they only posted in 2009! Maybe comment on that newest post, saying you'd like to email them about the levels, but don't see their address anywhere?

Umm, well, now they're all appearing in perfectly sensible order for me! So either it was some glitch in the forum software here, or I was hallucinating. Either way, never mind! :)

No, he must have been talking about the original levels, as he said he played the first 55 levels (the original level set has 70 levels), while the fan-made set has only 39 levels. :)

Off-topic from this topic, but I seriously want to see this! The Boulder Dash database to note! Please talk about this in another topic, I wanna go through playing a ton of these Boulder Dash-likes and chatter here in this forum.
It's months ago, but I never forget. I will post soon, in quiet Christmas holiday times. Thanks for caring. Watch the forum :)

I noticed that you were discussing my levels. I'm glad you showed interest in my work. Here’s a bit of history: I started creating levels around 1996 when my PC (486SX) wasn't capable of running new games. I decided to have some fun by making new levels for myself and imagining an adversary trying to finish them. While creating the chambers, I tested them countless times. These tests were breakthroughs in understanding the game mechanics. When I spotted my first "strange thing," I started thinking about what else could be squeezed out of the game.

Level 38 was finished around 2003, and I decided that was it. I didn't want to repeat my puzzles just for the sake of making another chamber. I uploaded all my levels to YouTube in 2008 but later re-uploaded them after spotting a few bypasses to my desired walkthroughs in three of them. In 2019, I had an enlightenment moment while lying in bed at night, a kind of divine touch, and an idea for a completely new puzzle appeared in my brain. After prolonged procrastination, I finished that level in 2022, but one year later, I changed it a bit and re-uploaded it.

I have an idea for the final level. It won't be spectacular (just one tricky puzzle), but it will be challenging. I will try to make it this August during my holiday.

My chambers vary in difficulty from very easy to impossible. Additionally, we can divide them into two groups: normal (no secret knowledge needed to finish) and those where guru-level lore is required to pass. All can be completed. In one go, I finished levels 1-35 (I finished 35 only once in my life); for levels 36-39, I only completed them in chunks with the use of the editor. But ALL can be won.

In the attachment is a file with my work. To play, you need to rename it with the .hl extension, replace the existing file in the game folder, and run it.

If you would like, I can upload three other level packs from other Heartlight maniacs.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Hi simperror,

It's really interesting to hear the history behind the levels. I loved playing them, and spent two whole evenings playing solidly to complete them. Some great ideas in there. I'm looking forward to playing the last couple of levels when they're done.

Hi, have you finished my levels?

All my levels are done and fully playable. I will only try to create another one in August.

Yeah, I did them all. I thought the last one was impossible at first but the solution suddenly came to me in a satisfying rush of insight.

i've noticed in heartlight level 60 (not the custom levelpack), if you're quick, you're able to exit a tunnel right when the exit becomes blocked -- in which case you warp 2 spaces downward. what's the logic behind that?

this is from the browser version, so maybe it doesn't work exactly how it did on DOS.

This does't occur in DOS version.

Hello simperror,

Thanks for sharing your history with us especially with the levels you made for the MS-DOS version of Heartlight, it means a bunch within the realm of the rock and gem genre that Boulder Dash has made it happen with countless games inspired or taken from in the first place to see you being able to contribute to it.

As for even more custom Heartlight levels, please do share them! I was wondering if there's more custom levels out there, since it couldn't be just yours ever since the release of Heartlight. One day I'll be able to play your levels whenever I get the chance to do so. It's just that I played them through the unofficial online version, which likely has inaccuracies in how the game is played as ncrecc pointed out.

recently i played the actual dos version a bit. for reference, the correct behavior in the situation i posted (going through a one-way road that becomes blocked at the end) is that the player doesn't emerge at all and is considered to be dead.

having just finished the official heartlight levels (on DOS), i'd be very interested in seeing the 3 other level packs.

Hi RAP,,

Here are some extra Heartlight levels from remake LightHeart (https://mksztsz.hu/lightheart.html). Please, read the description. Five level pack, can be downloaded straight from the page. I'm attaching author's additional 15 levels pack (file needs to be renamed to Gilby's.lh and placed into games's folder). Of course levels can be played in original game after using text editor (notepad, etc.) and giving .hl extension.

Have fun. Soon I will send more levels.
