Wanting to upload leves - it won't let me!

Post by Lee Brewer »

Hi,
I am trying to upload my levels at:
http://www.zomis.net/rnd/index.php/rndforum?p=7303

The site will not let me register. I click on the login or register link and it takes me to the login page. I hit the "Not registered? Register now for free link and it takes me back to the:
http://www.zomis.net/rnd/index.php/rndforum?p=7303

page!

Anyone care to give a step by step "Uploading RnD Files For Dummies" set of instructions please?

I have had some of my students at school test my levels and they said they really enjoyed them - they said they are challenging.

I'm afraid I'm part of the dummy. If you don't know me, I'm the creator of that page you're trying to visit ;)

But well, step 1.
Use http://www.zomis.net/rnd/index.php instead. Adding another slash and more things at the end is one problem.

Step two. Try to register now, or upload a file without being logged in. (I suggest you try without logging in first, because the user activation e-mail maybe will fail, the webserver has been having some problems with sending e-mails lately :/).

If this doesn't work, e-mail me the level (zomis2k@hotmail.com) and I'll upload it manually. Or e-mail it to Martijn for upload on his site www.bd-fans.com

I'll be leaving tomorrow and travel to France for one week, so I hope you can work things out. I'd love to have your levels on my site!
Otherwise, if it still doesn't work. I'll be back on May 6th to help you out.

Best Greetings,
Zomis

Oh, they're really nice and not so easy.

Especially with a time limit of 100 seconds in level 3 ... again I vote for a default time limit of 0 seconds, Holger ...

Thanks for the positive note.

Being honest, I did not know I had a time limit on level 3! Also, these were designed to be used with the BD2K3 Graphic set. They also use the "spark" from the Supaplex levels.

I am working on more here and there. Time is not something I have a lot of in big chunks - but I like R&D b/c I can design a little at a time.

Anybody know of similar levels that have been made by anyone else? Obviously I like the detailed/puzzle-solving type. I also like to find new ways of making things happen (such as the amoeba becoming a sort of transporter).

Enjoy!

I just fixed a bug on the files archive which caused Lee's levels to not be displayed with the View level feature.

Zomis,
Would you be able to make it so that when people download my levels that they will get the BD2K3 graphics with them? I designed the levels to look good with the BD2K3 Graphic set. A lot of my custom elements will not be "hidden" in their surprise locations unless this graphics set is used. I did not have enough time to research how to make the levels auto-load the BD2K3 graphics.

Thanks,
Lee

That would probably not be convenient for Zomis to do.

However, you can set the graphics set in levelinfo.conf:

Code: Select all

graphics_set: BD2K3
This way, people who have BD2K3 (which is probably most people who download levels) will see the graphics in BD2K3.

This will only set the graphics, however; if you want the sounds and/or music to be set, use sounds_set and/or music_set.
The H. World levelset can be downloaded from http://www.bd-fans.com/RnD.html -- search The H. World on that page.

Thanks for the info - I will set this then re-submit. Hopefully Zomis will replace the level set I sent him. This may take a day or two - but I also have a couple new levels to add to the set.

Yes, when you send me the new levelset, I will update the one on the Files Archive.

With time limit off, I solved levels 1-15, except level 5.
Level 16 seems to be unfinished, there's no exit, yet.
And in level 5 I need 59 more emeralds ... where the hell can I get them?

Some levels are a little bit confusing, because the behaviour of the CEs is sometimes unexpected and often you don't know where to go next, because there's no straight walkthrough path; but ok, let's call it challenging!

Btw., you can use a unlimited times, so unless there's something to blow up diagonally, you don't need additional s.

Jannik - the emeralds ARE there - you can get them - they are... well, do you really want me to tell you?

As to level 16 - OOOPS! Somehow I loaded the incomplete levels from off of my at-work computer! :?

Level 16 IS completed on my OTHER computer (at home - cannot get a reliable internet provider in my area so I send files from work during down time). there are modifications to other sections of the various other levels included on my home machine. Will try to get there posted soon.

I will try to get the finished set out soon - more levels in it also.

Jannik said, "Some levels are a little bit confusing, because the behaviour of the CEs is sometimes unexpected and often you don't know where to go next, because there's no straight walkthrough path; but ok, let's call it challenging! "

Sorry for the confusion. When the BD2K3 graphics/sounds/etc. are used - the confusion may disappear b/c the trail you follow is marked by a quest for a certain color door/key-trail of colored doors/etc. I am sure that the confusion is caused by the graphics as I had my 12 year old son and 10 year old daughter run through these levels to see if they would all work. They both made it - but, thethey the the advantage of the proper graphics which define the CE's in the game as recognizeable elements rather than just a generic graphic. I cannot imagine trying to play them without these!

BTW - thanks for the tip on the bombs - how do you get that graphic in this posting? Copy/paste graphic? See - I am also a nbovice at forums!

Zomis, when I get them there, I would aappreciate not only the BD2K3 graphics being put with them, but also the sounds - it is an integral part of level 6.

If someone would make a "attaching-graphics-and-sound-files-to-your- levels-for-Dummies" I can makee sure this job is done in the future for other uploads.

Drawing element graphics in postings is called "Level Sketch" and you can read about it here: viewtopic.php?t=17 (Note that it only works on the Rocks'n'Diamonds forum :P)

Graphics and sounds... hmm... I think defining the appropriate setting in graphicsinfo.conf and soundsinfo.conf would be enough... no wait... it's enough with changing the levelinfo.conf file, isn't it...?
Adding these two lines into levelinfo.conf would solve it:

Code: Select all

graphics_set: BD2K3_GFX
sounds_set: BD2K3_SFX
And here's two links for you:
It's like a small version of attaching-graphics-and-sound-files-to-your-levels-for-Dummies
http://www.artsoft.org/rocksndiamonds/m ... ocId471001
http://www.artsoft.org/rocksndiamonds/m ... ocId553225
It could be more detailed but at least it is a start :)

Finally I solved level 5!
I fought for every single emerald!!! And in the end there were even 20-30 more than needed. :D

Unfortunately, the tape is broken.
I tried to continue it in the middle with pause and record, it worked with F1/F2, but the final tape is defective.
What a pity, in my opinion it was nearly perfect.

So my only proof is this screenshot from the continued F2-tape:

Or is there a tape editor where you can cut out the incorrect frames?

It would be very interesting to see your tape or the one from your kids ...
