New forum

Post by Alan »

A few things I like are,

The little file icon by the topic that shows the last post.

A Homely feeling, just something about artsoft.org gives it an authentic feel :)

If you read one new post out of say six and leave the thread, the unread icon stays on the main page.... PB set it to read.

Hey look, no loads of new posts that don't exist..

Speed of course.

And all of this before any customisation!

*edit*

Clicking the author by a post brings up the daily stats for a member, today I was:- [22.22% of total / 10.00 posts per day]

You can edit your post (correcting typos), without the "last edited" message showing.. which I hated on PB

And something I really like at phpBB: No ads that waste a lot of space, forcing you to scroll
down after every mouseclick.

That's only half true afaik.

If you edit the last post of a thread there will be no "last edited" message shown. I suppose maybe that's because you could have simply deleted and reposted it.

But if you edit a posting to which there are already answers there'll be also such a message...

At least that's how it works in another phpBB-forum I know, but it might me subject to configuration and Holger may simply have turned it off...

Nope, it's the same for all boards. Maybe Holger edited the source though ;)

Now I see what you mean...seems like Holger must hack the php source a bit more ;)
(Viewtopic.php, somewhere where the quotes is parsed...instead of showing the code for the images, the images should be shown.)

I now prefer this method of post editing.

I also like the member list, showing people in the order they joined, as opposed to PB's random list (I never did understand the order)

I don't like the signatures though, it looks like part of your post.. so I wont use it.
Simon, your sig includes a box with the word AD in it, and my firewall blocks this, you should rename it.

lol, yes. That´s nasty. You read a text, than you see, that Simon wrote again "creator of the file archive, host of RnDtool, blabla"...

Yes... At first I turned my signature on, as usual, but it didn't look good, so I turned it off... Maybe there is some way to put that info in the profile box (to the left)? And maybe Holger should disable the signatures, just to keep things tidy ;-)

I have? That's even more than I knew...
I don't think I have such, the image is simply: http://www.zomis.net/rnd/stats.png

I gotta say I like phpBB's signature system a lot, have never bothered so much about it...
and I recently shrunk down the size of my signature pic, and I don't think I'll shrink/delete it more..

And ric, it's vice versa ;) Host of archive, creator of RND tool...
seriously thinking about deleting parts of that text though..
