"Sandstein"

Post by Sascha »

Hallo,
I've made a new level set called "Sandstein"
with 3 levels of all different kind:
- common RnD
- dark and scary
- "challange in nature" (or whatever I should call it)

You can download it here.
Please tell me your opinion, I really wanna know!

BTW: The link is available for 1 year.

I noticed a mistake in level 1 of Sandstein,
the number of gems to collect is 68!
Sorry about that.

Sorry about one more mistake in level 3:
There must be another super bomb in the emerald room in the
upper right part of the level to blow up that wall!

Once more, sorry!

Okay, now the download link leads to a corrected version (hopefully) without any mistakes.

Now there's a solution tape available for the
3rd level of "Sandstein" ("Mr. B's Grove").

I played the levels last night, good work!

You certainly do well establishing the scary theme in the second level. I was little disappointed it was so short though. Maybe you could make a levelset out of it if you were bored? First level, still trying to complete. Third level - certainly very interesting and inventive!

BTW: I wasn't sure what to do with the "wood walls" in the second level. I ended up using the level creator to remove them. How are you meant to pass them?

Thanks for your praise!

Well, I would have liked the second level to work like Zelda, with only one transforming room, but I'm not skilled enough. At the end, it only looks similar. You're right, it's not too large, the set. Maybe I extend it...

Did you notice you can drop the cave diamonds? drop the needed number of them on the wood (no matter where) and the wall will disappear. Firstly you need 5, then 3. But don't pile the diamonds up, they aren't slippery.

BTW: Did you solve level 3? And if yes, how many tries did you need?

Yes, I did know, but I wasn't sure exactly where to drop them. That should help then!

Not yet ;). To be honest, there's few levels I finish properly. I suck at EM style games, but I still really enjoy them!. I'm sure it will be easier if I can work out how to use the tapes properly. But I'll put in the effort, and let you know when I do!

Pressing "F1" and "F2" to quick load and save tapes of the currently played level should help for most cases. (And yes, the remaining functionality of the tape recorder is a bit over-complicated... :-o )

BTW, is there a programm to play tapes independant from Rocksndiamonds?
Playing them like with Win Media player or Qicktime?

That would be nice indeed! :-D

No, this isn't possible -- a R'n'D tape file just contains the four players game device input in binary format (which means set or unset bits for the four directions and two action buttons for "snap" and "drop"). To replay a played game, the program just uses the game device input from the tape file instead of the real game device. This also means that you need a fully functional R'n'D game engine to replay a tape, so a theoretical "plugin" for a media player would have to contain major parts of R'n'D itself...

What about a program that...well... uses the tape and the level, mixes them and creates a video? Or maybe you could add an option to R'n'D itself like "export tape" or "save tape as" or whatever.

You could just use a program that records your screen and run R'n'D in fullscreen mode.
The H. World levelset can be downloaded from http://www.bd-fans.com/RnD.html -- search The H. World on that page.

You could try Windows Media Encoder 9 for such a purpose.
