Need Real Help!

Post by SoulCR »

I've read the previous help topic about downloading level sets but it hasn't helped at all.

I have downloaded the level sets and put them in, what I think, is the proper place but not only have I lost the sets that came with the original game download but I can't access the new level sets.

I am completey dumb when it comes to this stuff so is there anyone out there that can tell me step by step how to get all the level sets in the right place so I can play the game again??????

Indeed it's lack of documentation at this.
first of all, i assume that you're using windows.
I suggest that you place newly downloaded levelsets (that is, a directory containing a bunch of *.level files and a levelinfo.conf, and maybe some graphics and music) in My Documents\Rocks'n'Diamonds\levels.
The original levelsets location should be in your 'levels' directory in the game directory (where the .exe is located).

Hope that helps you.

Hi SoulCR, welcome to the forum!

When you have downloaded Rocks 'n' Diamonds, unpack (unzip) it to a place on your harddisk. Open the Rocks 'n' Diamonds folder and you see another directory called 'levels'. Open this 'levels' directory. You have to unpack all the levelsets into this directory in order be able to play them. All these levelsets must have an own folder with a specific file, called the 'levelinfo.conf' file, to be visible inside the game.

I'd suggest the following steps and to be sure that everything works:

Go to http://www.bd-fans.com/RnD.htm

1. Download the game: http://www.bd-fans.com/Files/RnD/RnD312Windows.zip

2. Download the level structure:
http://www.bd-fans.com/Files/RnD/Level_structure.zip

3. Unpack the game and copy it to a place on your harddisk.

4. Open the Rocks 'n' Diamonds directory you've just unpacked and delete the entire 'levels' folder.

5. Unpack the level structure to the Rocks 'n' Diamonds folder.

6. Go to http://www.bd-fans.com/RnD.htm again and download all the levels you want. Unpack the levelsets from the category 'Additional Classic Levels' to the 'Additional Classic Levels' folder inside the 'levels' directory of Rocks 'n' Diamonds, copy the levelsets from the category 'Additional Player Levels' to the 'Additional Player Levels' folder inside the same 'levels' directory of Rocks 'n' Diamonds, etc.

7. Now start the game and enjoy it!

Thanks for the welcome. This is quite the game!!! I started out about 8 years ago playing diamond caves so this is right up my alley.

Next quick question. How do I watch the "tapes" that the level set authors include in their files?

To watch the tapes: Type ":ist" in the main menu (when you have selected the level for which you want to see the tape), and then press the small Play button at the bottom-right side of the screen.

Note that these tapes contains a solution to their corresponding level, so you'll know how to solve the level after watching it.
