Hi

I'm utterly flummoxed by this level. Someone please help me.

Cheers

My tape sets show I never solved it ... I can get to within one dynamite of solving it by either of two (or three) routes; but not quite there.

('up the chimney' starting either in the topmost open place, or the one down & right of it, either of which leaves me one dynamite away from breaking through the right side of the xmas tree; or 'around the horn', which leaves two unreachable lamps needing to be lit)

In fact my tapes lack solutions to levels 0 3 7 12 20 23 28 49 50 54 62 67 71 72 75 95 of that levelset; though I haven't tackled them in 10 years so who knows what I may have learned in the interim...

Huh. Level 0 tape was solved except I didn't enter the exit? Now looking at the rest...

All solved except 50. That one is either a broken design, or has been broken by some RnD behavior change since 1998...

The latter seems to be the case. I loaded up rnd 1.2.0 (which actually includes the levelset in question!) in dosbox (the native linux binary didn't work), and it doesn't seem to care about the existence of the lightbulbs, provided you do not turn any on. It appears it was already fixed by 1.3.0 (which native included binary does still run under Linux, heh)

For no particularly good reason, I've attached a tape and a video postage-stamp-sized GIF of said tape under 1.2.0. It's nothing special, though, just to demonstrate. By the way, off topic, but I've noticed the scroll delay, despite being set to 0 in the a newer version of RnD which should be no scroll delay, still saves the value of "scroll-delay" as yes, meaning older versions which only look at that value don't know that there should be no scroll delay...

Thanks filbo and thanks armanelgtron.

I got exactly the same issues as you, filbo, with being one dynamite short. Loved the gif, armanelgatron, and thank you for the explanation of the game's behaviour.

Cheers
