Hello greyhead, welcome to the forum!
Please give a description of the control windows touchpad.
What do you mean by "control windows touchpad"?
Virtual buttons are not visible.
So you are playing the Android version of R'n'D and have activated the virtual buttons in the setup menu?
Escape is not possible when the player dies.
What do you mean by "Escape", assuming you are using the Android version? Touching the global "back button" on your Android device should do what pressing the "Escape" key does on the non-mobile versions of the game (Windows, Mac, Linux).

Hello and big thanx for r'n'd! I play this game about 15 years. Now I try to play r'n'd on windows 8 mobile device. It have sensor screen but don't have android buttons "back" and "home". I can control player and drop but can't escape level when player dies.

Oops! This answers all questions at once! :-o

And this probably also explains why there are problems with virtual buttons, as there are some references to the Android platform regarding the virtual button code. (Although it should also work with other devices with touch input, like it does with the inofficial iOS port.)

Have you tried the other touch input methods (from the setup menu)? Do any of them work?

Theoretically, when virtual buttons are enabled in the setup menu, they should be displayed on the screen when playing, at least when the first touch event was processed. But I'm not sure how the Windows version of R'n'D behaves here (using the Windows version of the SDL2 library).
It have sensor screen but don't have android buttons "back" and "home". I can control player and drop but can't escape level when player dies.
Did you try the "stop" button in the game control panel on the right side of the screen? That should work.

Hint: It does not work with all touch input methods (as some of them use the whole screen), but should work with some of them. (I would have to check which of them disable the game panel buttons and which do not...)

But then, simply tapping (or clicking) the screen after the player has dies should also quit a game (currently it does not). (But this would not help in a situation where the player got stuck somewhere, especially with levels with no time limit.)
