One more joystick problem

It was the firs time I wanted to try Rocksndiamonds with a joystick and I swear, it was the last time, but although I want to know what was wrong.
My deed:
The system I used was Mac.

1) I plugged in the joystick
2) I started RnD
3) Setup--Input Devices--Device: Joystick 1

I tried: Nothing.

4)Setup--Input Devices--Device: Joystick 2/3/4

Nothing.
Then I plugged in a playstation controler.

I do not exactly know what I did but suddenly the display for the device began to spin. I left the input devices window and tried to open it again but it didn't work.
I shut RnD down and restarted. No joystick worked - and nothing else either.
I had to remove RnD and reinstall.

Does anybody know what was wrong?

Hint: The joystick is disabled in the setup menu (at least in the input devices section -- not sure now), because it may not be calibrated yet.

Besides that, I have no idea what might have happended here.

I will test this with an USB joystick at my Mac box at home...

Apparently you configured a non-functioning joystick device and left the setup menu by "save and exit" -- this could have the effect that you can't control the main menu anymore, because you get faulty input events from your joystick. Better test new setup settings before you save them!

Removing R'n'D is not needed in this case -- just delete the file "setup.conf" from the "Rocks'n'Diamonds" folder in your "My Documents" folder to have R'n'D starting with default settings just like after the very first install/start.

The joystick was calibrated. I did that firstly.
Could it be because of the kind of youstick? Are there different reactions from rocksndiamonds with different joysticks?

Good question... Any joystick that is visible to the OS as a two-axis, two-buttons joystick should work with R'n'D.

The joystick's got 12 buttons  .

And when you say "axis". do you mean the irections it is able to move the player?
So, this joystick can be moved to each direction, 360° absolutely smooth.
I think, it's the joystick which is not working with rocksndiamonds.
