RnD tells u if you have beat best time when u comp a level
When you have beat a level you have already beaten and it asks if you want to replace the old tape i think it should also state if you have beaten your best time or not

Hmm, yes, good point.
BTW: At the moment, you can still refuse to save the tape directly after the game, and -- if you found out that you beat your previous score -- save/replace it later in the main menu by clicking on the "eject" button of the tape recorder (leftmost button). It's only a workaround, of course.
