Defender

Post by Alan »

Hi folks!

How is everybody?

I've had a few personal problems of late, but everything seems to be
OK for now (a long story that some of you know).

Anyway, not done much recently, but I plan to do another R&Ds game soon.

I had a little practice with the new version (3.1.0) and have put together
a fully working Defender game! Grab it at:

http://www.zomis.net/rnd/download.php?id=329

I think it's good practice to make these odd little games.

Welcome back Alan!

Even though I've never been a big fan of Defender-like games, I donwnloaded your level and tested it. What can I say, it's impressive! I don't have much experience in level creation, but I'm sure it was quite an effort. I can't wait for BD2K5 ;-)
Now, back to play some defender.

Hi!

I didn't know that THIS was possible in Rnd!! Although it has nothing to do with Boulderdash or so, it's great that such things can also be made!

good job!

Good to see you again, Alan. Hope you are doing well.
I have just tested Defender and I must say it was a bit easier when I enabled soft-scrolling and disabled scroll delay. (I really don't know why I had turned them on anyway...)

Good game, although there are some bugs, I say let's blame Holger ;)

Looking forward to see more levels from you.

That's voodoo!! Things like that cannot be done with CEs! At least not that I know of... =:-o

Alan, that level is really great work and a cool demonstration of what can be done with 3.1.0's CEs!

Very well done! :-)

(And it's *still* voodoo... :-| )

Thanks for the wb everybody!

>Now, back to play some defender.

Good luck getting over 10,000 pts before it crashes!

>Although it has nothing to do with Boulderdash

True, but it's all practise I suppose and I learned quite a lot from it.

>I must say it was a bit easier when I enabled soft-scrolling and disabled scroll delay

Interesting... I forget about these "out of level tweaks" that can effect the game, I must remember to check these different settings next time.

>although there are some bugs, I say let's blame Holger!

I found another two after posting it, oh well. Yes let's blame Holger ;-)

>is BD2K5 Done?

Hummmmm, maybe you should say is BD2K6!

>That's voodoo!!

:) It might be possible to do a full version of Kung-fu Master...... now that would be voodoo!

Not really... I have tried a few things myself with "Defender"-like levels, and after making a decimal squarerooter (non aprilfool version), almost anything is possible for me :)

Well, if you say that... :-)

Maybe I should play around with CEs more often, too... ;-)

Well, if it encourages you to add more interesting CE options, be my guest :)
(I hope you have written all CE ideas from the forum(s) down).

And Alan, I must say that I am impressed, look at this:
RND Files Archive report for week 6 2005 wrote: Top 3 popular files (downloads last week):
1. http://www.zomis.net/rnd/info.php?file=329
Alan - Defender, 22 downloads
2. http://www.zomis.net/rnd/info.php?file=327
Zomis - Teleporters, 4 downloads
3. http://www.zomis.net/rnd/info.php?file=165
Darkon - DC3 elements v0.2, 3 downloads
Reports like this are currently only avalible for me, but I'm still working on them. I do, however, know that what it says is true. :)

Your file has been downloaded 22 times in 4 days, that's not bad.

For me, Alan's name is the quality assurance, so that doesn't make me wonder at all :-)
