ConfEdit contains Virus!

Post by Sascha »

When I downloaded ConfEdit 1.0.1 from artsoft.org and I wanted to unpack it,
my AntiVir told me that there's a virus called 'TR/Dropper.Gen' in
C:\...\ConfEdit-1.0.1\ConfEdit\Help.exe .

Does anybody know anything about this?

Yes: This is a so-called "false positive", which means that your (and also my own) instance of AntiVir was simply wrong about detecting a trojan horse in that exe file. But yes, it is quite disturbing at first. :-o

Many other people had similar problems with innocent exe files and that specific trojan horse, for example:

(You can find more when googling for it.)

So it seems that everything is fine with the ConfEdit package and files.

So I can say: "Ignore", if my AnitVir asks me what do do?
That's good.
And I hope that this time ConfEdit works...

Spybot detects the "asycfilt.dll" file as SpyArsenal.Watcher, in case anyone else gets any false positives.
