Windows or Linux?

Post by Guest »

What platform do you play R'n'D on?

Can a mod add a poll with the following choices:
*Windows
*Linux
*other

*EDIT*

Done that -- just replaced "other" by all available platforms.

GNU/Linux. I used to run WinXP but i screwed the pooch, and not in a nice way either

The only things i miss about Windows are certain dev tools, especially Visual C++ - say what you will about Microsoft but they really did some good work with that - and gaming..i have a bag full of games that are just sitting there collecting dust. Other than that, GNU/Linux fits the bill quite nicely.

Personally, I want to use Linux but I can't 'cuz my family also uses this PC and should be completely lost in Linux. So, I use windows.
BTW, It seems that we are reviving old topics again... :S

What about dual-boot?
Is your family proficient in Windows? If not, they'd probably find Linux easier to use (as long as you'd transparently do the administration), unless they use some specialised programs that are only available for Win32. But dual-bood should be a good solution in any case.

I play RnD in Windows and it works fine. Once I installed Redhat Linux 9, but the Unix version of RnD didn't work there for somehow reason.

But is there actually a difference to play RnD in Windows or in Linux? Otherwise I would always prefer the Windows version, because the greater part of all the programs (including games) have been designed for Windows.

If one uses the SDL version on Linux (which is highly recommended), there should be absolutely no difference. (If you have a Unix without the SDL libraries available, you can always use the X11 version, but then you have no fullscreen mode available.)

If you also want to play a lot of other games, Windows is the natural choice, of course...

Yup, that should be very good, and my dad was just going to do a dual-boot for linux this week (how funny :D)... he has a Linux CD. I tested it out once (via CD so I could'nt download stuff somehow) and it looked nice! Did'nt play R'n'D though...;)
Current project:
Nope.
