Where have all of the R'n'D Fans Gone?

Post by James O'neal »

I'm a little disappionted that there aren't many active discussions here. I was looking through old threads and thought they were interesting, but can't really see a relevance in responding to them now.

So, let's start a discussion. All you fans still out there...let's get something started.

How about we think up of a new level set. Spaceship adventures?

I pop around here now and again. For the last few years I've been working on a EMC-style levelset with the limitations of those game elements specific to this type (and not any R'n'D stuff at all, just the Emerald Mine stuff + V6 stuff).

One of the reasons why I stopped working on it is because the playfield that Rocks'n'Diamonds renders (15 by 15 tiles) does not emulate the original Emerald Mine's playfield (20 by 12.5 tiles); if I continue working on the levelset, I have to accept the scenario that I'm creating levels that is suited for seeing a playfield of 15x15. Another reason is time (and laziness); years ago, during my time working on creating levels, I thought up of level concepts or snippets with drawings on how it will work, and how it can be incorporated as part of a level, or fleshed out as a level on its own. I found it some time ago, but it seems it's lost somewhere in my room.

I'm not sure what will encourage me to work on my levelset right now, except when I feel bored and randomly decided to come back to it.

Other than that, when it comes to the game, when I'm not working on new levels, I play the Emerald Mine Club levelsets and post it in my topic called the "Emerald Mine Club levelset completion progress" topic that I created some time ago. I report my playthroughs of the levels with a database (I should make it a spreadsheet instead), talk about specific levelsets below, try to discuss the origins of these levelsets, and just recently, uploaded a zip folder containing tapes of levelsets I completed in single player. I didn't respond much due to lack of feedback right now.

i was busy writing a reference book for the glass insulator hobby. I have used R&D off anf on for a break. The boo is finally done :)

My problem is I have some very intricate levels with some new ideas, but I have built them with a modified BD2K3 set of graphics. I cannot post them b/c I need to make my own 3D stuff so I am not infringing on the BD2K3 maker's work. I don't know how to use 3D moideling software and it will take some time to learn it. I don't have the time to train myself as much as I want, so its still up in the air. Its frustrating b/c I have a lot of new ideas in the levels and more to make, but until I get my own graphics to replace the few I still use from BD2K3, I am at a dead end. :(

Until this reply just now by Lee Brewer, I hadn't seen any activity on RnD forums for weeks.

BUT! Today I see half a dozen posts by Holger, all from August 25th! All about graphics corruption fixed in one of the 4.0.0 git checkins.

I check every day or two, reloading index.php to see if any red "new messages in this forum" icons.

Holger, did you restore some part of the forum SW from backup, or something like that?

@filbo: No, I didn't do anything like that. The only thing I did three days ago was moving two potential spam posts to a quarantine area, but no other activity from my side that I could remember.

One suggestion though: To keep you from regularly reloading the forum index page to check for new posts, you can use the forum's automatic mail notification system to keep you informed of any new posts (all or only in selected sub-forums). I use this for any new posts by myself, and it just told me that you replied to this thread. It's really convenient, especially for a low-traffic forum like this one. :-)

Something has definitely broken in the forum. Today when I reloaded the top page it showed new activity in General Discussion, Bug Reports and Off Topic -- but only this one (OT) actually had new activity.

I have the checkbox at the bottom of each forum, next to "Subscribe forum", but I don't think I get emails about anything but replies to my posts.

Oh, and don't have it on R'n'D Announcements as there's no field down there.

... and according to "Manage subscriptions" I'm only subscribed to one forum! But this only gives me control to unsubscribe, not subscribe...

Looks like the checkmark is meaningless?

No! I guess it's supposed to mean "check here to turn this on", but looks much more like "this is already on [though in fact it isn't]". Once you've turned it on it becomes an "x" which is slightly more understandable as "click here to turn it off". But so is "unsubscribe forum", the text.

There's no way I can see to subscribe the announcements forum.

Very strange -- I do have a "subscripe/unsubscribe forum" button at the bottom of the "Announcements" sub-forum.

And I am also successfully subscribed to this sub-forum (and to all other sub-forums as well).

Again, nothing changed in the last few weeks, and no strange behaviour (regarding unread posts) over here. :-o

Could you maybe check things with a different browser (or even a different computer) to see if it makes a difference? Maybe it's some strange kind of cookie problem?

can't subscribe to R'n'D Announcements board

Post by filbo »

I've been using Firefox (40.0.3); switched momentarily to Chrome (45.0.2454.85), but it was no different. Doing "View source" on each page, General Discussion has:

(div id="page-footer") (div class="navbar") (div class="inner") (span class="corners-top") (span) (/span) (/span)
(ul class="linklist") (li class="icon-home") ... (/li) (li class="icon-unsubscribe") ... (/li) (li class="rightside") ... (/li) ...
and looks like:

and R'n'D Announcements has the same section, but (li class="icon-unsubscribe") ... (/li) is missing:

Maybe it omits that for people without some privileges (which presumably all but moderators lack)? Try looking at the announcements board from a non-privileged account.

Sorry for the delay, did not have enough time to check this issue until now.

You were perfectly right with your assumption -- checking that forum with a "normal" user account showed the same missing "subcribe forum" link.

I've had a deep look into the forum permissions and was able to fix it. You should now be able to subscribe to the "Announcements" section.

I'm just playing Geometry Dash very much. But even for Geometry Dash I haven't enough time, because of exams in school but in the future I wanna play Geometry Dash and Rocks'n'diamonds.
