Re: License of Emerald Mine game engine
Bump, was this ever resolved outside of the forums? >8 years... I know, but it's concerning that there was never really a solid conclusion to this dispute. From what I understand, Holger took this guy's Emerald Mine engine, directly translated it into C, and put it into RnD when the author explicitl...

List of DC3 elements and elements that are different in DC3
Recently, the developer of Diamond Caves 3 has stopped offering it for purchase, and instead put up a weaker (in my opinion) "Diamond Caves" game on Steam. This Steam version does not feature any of the levels that were previously in DC3 and now has its "do levels in order" handi...

The "automatically count gems needed" option does not count right
It regards diamonds (worth 3 gems) as worth 1 gem, completely ignores nuts, pearls, crystals, and infotrons; and there is no option to count gems inside of walls.

Replace the "space" steel letter tile with the flat steel wall tile
The steel space looks identical to a flat steel wall, and it's indestructible like a flat steel wall, so it should be identical to a flat steel wall... except that it's not. This leads to interactions that would seem weird to the player, like 1. androids refusing to clone it if it's not included amo...

Re: Elements fall through magic walls too slowly in the default engine
At the same time, I will try to play some of the existing DC2 levels (and elements) to see for myself which of them already work fine (enough) and which of them require improvements to be played correctly. I'm glad I can help! Feel free to ask me any specific questions about how the DC3 elements wo...

Re: Pearl turns into EM rock if it passes through two successive DC2 magic walls
Since the editor for the Steam version of Diamond Caves came out, I've been able to test a few things I was curious about. This was one of them. In Diamond Caves, stacked magic walls act just like EM magic walls. Any convertible objects that fall into them disappear and never come out. Also, just li...

Elements fall through magic walls too slowly in the default engine
Here's how fast a rock falls through a magic wall in Diamond Caves: https://i.frogbox.es/ldp Same above, but with the Emerald Mine engine in RnD: https://i.frogbox.es/ldq And here's how fast it falls in Rocks'n'Diamonds' own engine: https://i.frogbox.es/ldr RnD seems to be the clear outlier here. In...

Re: Diamond Caves is being sold on Steam now
The editor has finally arrived! Now I should be able to provide some of the more pedantic information about the DC3 elements, e.g. how stacked magic walls work.

Re: Where did the elements in the "RND" section of the editor originate?
The doors you can walk on instead of passing through I think they come from old Windows/Amstrad/ZX Spectrum/Commodore game called "Chip's Challenge". It is mainly based on collecting keys to open others. The speed pill Not sure about this one, but I think it also comes from "Chip's C...

Re: Lead Us Not Into Teleportation
If you could do everything frame-exact, the switch in the top right wouldn't actually be necessary. I looked into this and the maneuver doesn't require anything frame-perfect, although it can lead to some annoying trial and error if you're doing it without the quick save/quick load features. Here's...

Where did the elements in the "RND" section of the editor originate?
Some of the elements in the RND category seem like the kind of things that would be ports of elements from other Boulder Dash clones, but what clones are they from? Or did all of those elements debut in Rocks'n'Diamonds itself? I'm specifically wondering about the origins of: The doors you can walk ...

Mole is in the "RND" dropdown when it should be in the "DC2" dropdown
(If the image below isn't loading, check back after a day or two, the hosting service I'm using hasn't updated their security certificate yet today) https://i.frogbox.es/lc7 The mole was introduced in Diamond Caves 2 and not Rocks'n'Diamonds (unless DC2 inherited it from RnD... :o ) so most of the m...

Re: Pearl turns into EM rock if it passes through two successive DC2 magic walls
Is the Steam version really at all related to classic DC / DC2 / DC3? It sounds like the levelset(s) it comes with are new; the objects might be as well. Even if they're based on the general ideas of the DC3 objects, if the author rewrote everything from scratch they probably won't behave the same ...

Re: Pearl turns into EM rock if it passes through two successive DC2 magic walls
The developer of Diamond Caves has mentioned wanting to update the Steam version with a level editor before Christmas rolls around, so pretty soon I should be able to provide some insight on what the correct behavior here would be (if this isn't it).
