just a reminder so this doesnt get forgotten since i think it was a good idea ;-)

whenever the player takes a step, the CE also takes a step, i suppose this could be added as a movement speed rather than a custom movement method

with messages on CE's though, you could make things like sign posts which you read when you touch them, or a little RPG'ish r&d level where you need to talk to people or so it displays a message when you touch a switch, so the player has more of an idea of what the switch did (ce switch that is)...

i just noticed something, there are various levels that have a duplicate murphy on, im guessing that this 2nd murphy, if it dies, also kills the murphy your controlling, as thats what it looks like its ment to do, can anyone clarify this?

that makes me think,
it would be useful to have a "change when exploded"

and thats already possible, apart from the explosion part (if i understand what you mean)
