Re: Notes from playing, feature ideas and bugs

Regarding tape usage, Bryan might find these posts useful both for helpful config, and usage notes: config recommendation: tape player buttons & actions (note: the actual macro sequences are obsolete) Tape synchronization problem (look for 'When I am solving a level' for application note...) [4....

Re: difference in wall growth rate?

Ah, if I'd looked inside the pla/* vs. his/* files I probably would have figured out they were 'high scores' :) Um. I don't have that media handy right now: are his/* filled with anything interesting? In particular, does his/54 imply that they were able to solve it with their engine? No tapes/*, are...

Re: difference in wall growth rate?

A1000 was my 1st and last Amiga (eventually with a 120MB Seagate HD and 2MB 'RAMBO-ard' external memory!) After that I was working at SCO and had a series of x86 Xenix and Unix systems. Now mostly Ubuntu (kids have Chromebooks, couple of Macs, and some of the Ubuntu is actually Mint fwiw). Open the ...

Re: difference in wall growth rate?

I've never used UAE before so I have no such thing as 'my existing .uaerc'. The docs were not super helpful on getting started.

I had an A1000 the 1st or 2nd day of availability, and used it for years, then moved on; this was my 1st time ever using Amiga emulation.

Re: [4.0.1.0] Pause before end - where is it?

See https://www.artsoft.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2163 for suggested keys for the tapes; but note that some of the longer action strings are no longer correct, due to the change you noticed. In fact, let's see if I can revise them here (from memory, at work : ) '0:ist' Load "solution ta...

Re: difference in wall growth rate?

Well, now I've spent half an hour astonishing myself at how horribly bad fs-uae is... When I first downloaded it (from ubuntu repo), I just ran it. It got into a weird state and trashed the fonts on mate-terminal as well as the whole window manager; which I haven't yet gotten out of. Had to ssh in f...

Re: difference in wall growth rate?

I haven't had an Amiga for a couple of decades, and have never fired up an emulator for it... so yeah, could probably try that, but many steps to get there.

difference in wall growth rate?

levels/Emerald Mine Club/emc_emc_mine_1/54 seems impossible -- you're given many dynamites, but the holes they make in the growing walls heal just as fast as you can move -- it's impossible to make a hole you can actually traverse. Is this a difference in the RnD EMC engine vs. original EMC? emc_emc...

Re: Problem with Level Manager

Make a Windows XP VM (under any of the dozen or so virtualization environments available these days). The old binary should run on it. Strongly recommend you pre-configure the virtual hardware to have NO sort of networking, before ever booting XP in a VM. Transfer data to/from the VM with some safer...

Re: Suggestion for new sprites and Rockford Levels

I guess I mean both putting it in nice final format; and grabbing it and putting it up for raw download as soon as you see it mentioned (with all appropriate source pointers etc.); as a hedge against future Internet Rot.

Of course I really mean 'grabbing it raw then eventually making it nice'...

Re: Suggestion for new sprites and Rockford Levels

How do you feel about deliberately mirroring such externally referenced materials (i.e.: levelsets & associated artwork) ?

Re: additional boulderdash levels?

I did eventually find copies of 11 of the lost files in various FreeBSD archives (the one I actually downloaded from was http://ftp.stu.edu.tw/FreeBSD/distfiles/rocksndiamonds, and crosschecked sha256sums against some other BSD site whose details I failed to note): Files/RnD/Levels/42_Steps.zip File...

setuseronfire --user=RebeccaSip

So, is there a 'new user's posts are invisible until vetted by an admin, until admin unsets that flag' flag in phpBB?

And a 'limit to 2 unvetted posts per user' setting?

Re: additional boulderdash levels?

Hmmm. At the moment that I checked, http://www.bd-fans.com/RnD.html was offline, so I found it on archive.org. Then I tried to download from archive.org all 222 files linked from the main page; and successfully acquired 188 of them. Only then did one of my attempts to reach the original site succeed...
