35 years after rockford's revenge, now the butterflies take their own revenge and have turned their cocoons upside down...

no flag, but i've tested every tricky part of this seperately and i'm pretty sure it works, but it's quite puzzling ;d

ahahaa! this is so good! one of the most difficult of cso series caves and so one of my favorites as well.

may this be the final newcomer test for darkstoorm ; if you can solve this without any hints, you are officially a bad-ass bd solver! :)

Perhaps I'm doing it the wrong way, pushing the boulder off of the diamond doesn't seem to work for me at all, the explosion consumes the diamond before I can snap it :D

Gotta find another way I guess!

# .font: font.text_2
2020-05-19 19:49 nesdori
# .font: font.text_1
darkstoorm , you are right; doing it that way always consumes a diamond

i had 136 seconds left in my run, so i can try about 68 times with 50% success rate. so the probability to get a successful run that way is 0.9999999999999999999966. i'm still astonished that dustin publishes a cave requiring that mucH luck! :D

darkstoorm , once again, your basic principle is correct. you just need tune it with something which will give you 1-2 frames more time to snap a diamond.

darkstoorm , have you ever considered using the editor to practise tricky parts without always playing out the actual cave? many players do it and i don't think it's considered cheating, it's just practising :)

# .font: font.text_2
2020-05-19 20:56 DarkStoorM
# .font: font.text_1
Yes, I positioned everything to just hit F5 and retry it over and over. I can do it in the editor, but it's so hard to get the BFlies to behave like I want them to in the full run. That's the hardest thing for me to learn so far :D

funnily, my thinking process was the same as darkstoorm 's.

some weeks ago: "hmmm, what about turning bd2-o upside down? is this any interesting? hmm... oh, relesaing this bfly requires a neat little cso-trick... oh, and that bfly won't come to the area of the boulders at all, so i need another bfly to influence it... so, this looks very interesting indeed! ok, how about the 4th explosion...hmm...hmmmmmmmm... damn, it's so close... but how to save that damn diamond that helps me with the boulder? aaaahhhh, it's one frame too late! it's such a pity, but it doesn't seem to work :("

today: "hey, what was that problem with the reversed cave o? ah, yes, i see... that diamond always got lost... but it's so close... and it would be such a nice idea to just turn the 35-year-old cave upside down without any other changes and make a mega puzzle out of it!
...
...
...
ah, how about using t w o butterflies? *tests* works! great! made my day! ;d"

dustin , this cave is awesome! something that is quite impossible for a human to create from a scrath but is only possible by turning existing caves upside down or by twiddling with random seeds :)

# .font: font.text_1
nesdori , i'm convinced that peter liepa had that idea in mind when he placed everything in that cave as he placed it. i always wondered what the deeper sense of bd2-o was because it was so much different from the other caves - much more specific, no real 5 levels etc. - but now i finally know it! ;d

darkstoorm , setting the right gap between bflies is not so hard. you just need technique.

for inspiration, you can check few caves with this technique implemented.

for example: pro horror mod, amoeba luck... and many others :)

# .font: font.text_2
2020-05-20 00:28 DarkStoorM
# .font: font.text_1
shredder , I eventually found out that you either have to create a 1-piece hole somewhere on their path or create a "corner" so they go back to 1-space-gap.

The solution was crazy hard for me, I don't have that low reaction time :D in the four successful snaps I died twice and went in the wrong direction. Glad I got this out of the way :-D

# .font: font.text_2
2020-05-20 00:34 shredder
# .font: font.text_1
hmm... you don't have to set 1-space-gap. standard 2-spaces gap suffices. it's more stable.

# .font: font.text_2

# .font: font.text_1
yes i considered both but i don't know why, more comfortable play to me was the strategy from my demo ;)

# .font: font.text_2
2020-05-20 13:02 nesdori
# .font: font.text_1
when i thought about it, i thought that the-right-push where the boulder gets scanned before the leading fly gives one frame advantage to the-left-push becuase the boulder stays in place one frame longer and so there can be two push tries and still it's possible to pick the diamond. but now that i checked it, the-left-push with 2-gap flies actually works the same way and there also two consecutive pushes can be tried and its success rate also is 50%. so i kinda misread the-right-push being a little better and in fact they are equal :)

# .font: font.text_2
2020-05-20 13:20 DarkStoorM
# .font: font.text_1
I assumed both runs would be the same, because the boulder is scanned first, so it won't roll off as it detects the path is blocked for two frames, but for some reason I chose the left side anyway.

# .font: font.text_1
nesdori , i hereby use the only chance i'll probably ever get to correct you mathematically: the chance of a boulder push with two attempts is 7:16 and not 50% ;d

congrats to all solvers - so the solution i thought of really seems to be the only possible one.

# .font: font.text_2
2020-05-20 22:36 dustin
# .font: font.text_1
i think that the advantage of a right-push strategy is that you can then trap the two bflies on a loop so you get a chance to push the boulder every few seconds! interestingly, nesdori , though using a right-push strategy, did not do that!

thx shredder ;d however i can't promise when and if there will be another cso cave. i think cso 1-30 covered almost everything there is on that topic, but once and a while, i do get a new cave idea which has enough cso ideas to continue the series ;d also, of course, there are many other caves featuring this topic as well ;d

darkstoorm - i don't think it's possible because there are some amoeba caves among them, which can't be trapped seperately. ;d
