This is the second dangerdash 3 overlap, and sadly, the only Q in the mineral gemstones category. this is the original quartz which is colourless. consisting of silicon dioxide, quartz is formed in tetrahedric arrays of this molecule. quartz is also the second most abundant mineral in earth's crust, behind feldspar.

in the pairing of hardness to minerals, quartz has been defined as 7 on the mohs scale.

as such, quartz is a family of gemstones. Most of these have colour:
amethyst being purple, agate being red-orange, onyx being black, the prior prasiolite being green, tiger's eye being a red-brown, and rose quartz containing a pinkish hue.

because quartz contains silica, great care must be utilised when refining or shaping stone products using quartz.

quartz was also used in the earliest of mechanisms, due to its piezoelectric quality, meaning it has electric potential when under mechanical stress.

(actually I am wrong: quartzite exists, however it is heated and pressurized sandstone. it's a quartz protolith, so it doesn't count)
