of course, it will stay hidden for now. it isn't even best possible score - let's wait for nesdori ;)

i'm trying too, but so far i haven't done every part in one go ;d

dustin , i know what you mean ;-) to be honest - this was the first cave, before those "quick transfers". i couldn't solve it in one go, so i've created smaller intermissions to practice.

gate itself shouldn't be the problem - it is the same trick as in dustin 's cave "heroic bravery"... however, where to turn? i suggest going left, but it is not always possible - depends on firefly phase.

this gate is an interesting spot imo. both ff are facing into the same direction, so there are four possible scenarios when rockford ppasses the gate.
p=player, u/d/l/r = firefly with direction

scenario 1 - the fireflies face up when rockford is between them.
upu
due to the open border effect, rockford is scanned first and moves up. next comes the right firefly and it moves left. the other firefly cannot move and therefore turns right, so one frame later we have
 p
rl
if you move up again, the firefly "l" will not follow you immediately, so it is possible to escape this way.

scenario 2
lpl
same as before - if we move up, the right firefly will immediately follow, but if we move up again next frame, it won't. so also here we can escape.

scenario 3
dpd
if we move up now, the right firefly will not follow us. but the left one will, so one frame later we have
 p
 rl
now we have a problem. if we continue moving up, this time the firefly "r" will immediately follow and finally catch us, no matter if we turn left or right afterwards. so the only chance to survive here is to move left. the firefly "r" will still follow us, but this time rockford can escape later.

scenario 4
rpr
same as 3.

conclusion - it is 100% possible to survive, but this demands a very quick reaction! when rockford is between the fireflies, he must of course move up. if a firefly follows him immediately, rockford must then turn left. if not, rockford must move up again and only then turn left or right! so you must react within one frame to escape for sure! otherwise your chances to survive are only 50/50, no matter what you do! ;d

oops - in some cases the player "p" and/or the fireflies should be one unit more to the right. if i start a new line with a blank space, it seems not to be accepted...

dustin , great in-depth analysis! maybe i should modify this part of cave to make it less luck based...

both fireflies are indeed facing the same direction at the beginning. does change of it would make it easier? i mean - to make them face opposite direction from start for example...?

let's make some tests :-)

1. i made a mistake in my conclusion - i meant to say the following.
when rocky is between the fflies, he must of course move u. one of the two fflies will then follow him immediately. if the left one follows him, rocky must immediately turn left. if the right one follows him, rockford must move up again and only then turn left or right to survive. so if it would be humanly ossible to react within one frame, or if one could pause the game, the cave would be 100% solvable.

2. if the two fflies would face into opposite directions, then it will always be the right firefly who follows rockford, either immediately or after one or two frames. so no quick reaction necessary!

VERY GOOD LESSON WITH these flies :-)

i've released fixed version with "100% passable" gate. however, i'll leave solution still covered for now, since noone had finished it and there are few surprises yet to be discovered ;)
