nicol , with puzzle caves like this (where the solution is not so obvious), it would be nice to hide your solution for a while so others can try it as well :)

 dustin and shredder

i decide to reveal the solution immediately becouse, many times i was unable to solve other cave and was curiouse how someone do it and until now i dont know way/possibility how to solve the cave, then i understand if someone is interested to do it by him/her self then will not watch demo and will try. other people have less skill to solve but still are interested how they do it - so they have a chance.

Regards!

good points nicol !
sometimes i check older caves. some of them are way too hard for me and i'd like to see a demo, so if there are only hidden demos, it is a bit annoying. so i fully agree with your argument!

on the other hand, if i click on a new cave which looks challenging, and i immediately see a public demo, the temptation is big to just say "ah well, let's just watch the solution" :d but if there's only a hidden demo, it tends to make me ambitious and think "it looks hard, but someone did it, so let's see if i can do it as well!"

so personally i think the best middle way is to keep demos of new puzzle caves locked for 1-2 days but then reveal the solution. so if a new challenging cave is uploaded and i'm the first solver, i hide my demo so others aren't tempted into just watching my solution but try it on their own. and players who can't solve the cave but find it interesting and want to see the solution can watch it just a few days later :)

a disadvantage is of course that sometimes i forget to revel a solution after 1-2 days , but hopefully this does not happen too often :d

it's a different story with classic arcade caves, of course, there i always immediately reveal the solution (unless i found a non-obvious way for highscore, but that's quite rare) :d

regards back!

Well, I agree with dustin , for new caves it would be nice to hide the solution for at least two days, it always encourages players to find a solution.

And yes, I always keep forgetting about my hidden solutions... :D but at least we have a cave filter "solved by me", which makes it a bit easier. Also, that reminds me, I can now reveal my older solutions :D

we had discussions about this topic several times in the past.

some years ago i proposed to change the site to automatically reveal hidden demo's after a while, according to some rule, for instance:
* reveal demo 2 days after it was stored.
* reveal all demos of a cave when the cave is no longer visible in section "new caves" and not played for at least 2 days.

i still would prefer such a change, because i think it has two advantages:
1. you don't have to ask someone directly to reveal a solution, which can be annoying if you need to do that often.
2. you can see the solutions of players who are no longer active here (example: eko) and you cannot ask them to reveal the solutions.

how do you think about this nowadays?

We have to vote about this question. I afraid this is not an easy question because I can imagine somebody wants to hide his demos forever.

ok, maybe better to do that in the 'messages' section, so more members will see it. i will restate the question there...
