Two months after his journey through the alphabet (see "ABC History" series), ^ gets more and more curious about the origin of the numbers as well. How did the arab digits 1234567890 develop to their modern shapes?
^ has heard about a theory that each digit represents as many angles, so he writes down all the digits in a very angular way, marking every angle (up to 180 degress) with a \. And indeed, this theory looks amazingly striking! OK, he somewhat cheated with the "7" where he had too add a very unpopular bottom line, and with the "9" which he extended to the right to get two more angles, but all in all, it's a fascinating picture! But can this angle theory really hold up with the historical facts? ^ decides that he wants to find out and so he starts another adventurous journey through human writing history!

Remark: I won't dig into the history of the arab digits as deeply and detailed as in "ABC History". One reason is that the history of the digits is much more shady than the history of the latin letters. Still, we will see some very striking and cool results, so I definitely wanted to make this series :D

The angle theory shown in this cave is really more a myth (although a quite popular one) and contradicts with the known historical facts, but still, I found it very cool when I first saw it! The digits 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 and 8 work very well if 0 is written circular and the other digits uncurved, and with a little bit cheating, 7 and 9 also somewhat fit in!

If you like this digit-angle-interpretation, then you can already look forward to more fascinating stuff in the following caves! :D
