- rock fort 3 - Rockford's dream -

At the end of Rock Fort 2, our hero Rockford- the treasure seeker- has actually succeeded in collecting the legendary treasure from the not less legendary fort! He has found and beaten the fort'’s owner, and now more than 350 jewels from the treasure room are his! All the efforts he made, all the dangers he faced, seem to be behind him and pure glory and richness seem to lie before him! Nothing seems to be able to prevent him from living a life like his animated idol scrooge mcDuck , swimming in glittering treasures! Of course, he wouldn'’t make everything as the Duckburgian does; he, Rockford, would waste his money for limousines, women, villas, dignified brand name clothing, and this life he always dreamed of seems to be his now, it finally seems to be his...

It seems to.

But let me ask two more questions to our hero, only two.
The first is a rather principal one:

Does money actually make happy?

Well, admittedly I am not the first to ask such a question. Surely Rockford has been confronted with it before and I guess he still would answer it with a clear “yes”. So I’'ll postpone this one for now and come to the second question, this time a very pragmatic and urgent one which even Rockford can’'t avoid:

How to get out of the Big Mountain again?

With this shocking question we return to the setting; first of all, though, we have to search Rockford, whom we had lost track of when we had left him alone in the treasure room with his euphoria and his diamonds.
But he isn'’t there anymore.
We leave the fort as he has obviously done and walk all the way back with him, until the entrance of cave J of Rock Fort 1, where his adventure inside the Mountain had started two years ago.
And there we find him.
My (second) question has already come to him, too, suddenly derailing his euphoric mood and, up to now, changing it nearly into desperation. He seems to have tried everything: he has hit the walls, screamed for help, hit fire- and butterflies next to the walls and csearched for hidden exits, but nothing has helped. ‘This cannot be!’, he thinks. ‘It'’s not possible that I make all my dreams of richness come true and then have to starve here wretchedly in this foreign world! There MUST be a way to get out!’ And suddenly he comes to think about how he had come in here- “I am such an idiot!” he shouts with ease, opens his rucksack, searches and finds the bottle with the rest of the potion- ‘luckily I haven'’t drunk all up!’, he thinks- and without wasting one more minute he drinks, convinced that the potion will bring him out of this world as well as it had brought him inside.

And then everything happens very fast.

Suddenly Rockford senses a big yearning, a yearning he had never felt before, a yearning which has nothing to do with money... something hits him like a knockout punch from Mike Tyson, everything becomes indistinct in front of his eyes, and the next moment he hits the floor, unconscious for one instant. All this happened so suddenly that he had no more time to understand what was happening to him, which he could only have found out by reading the inscription on the bottle:

Drink this once to get in.
Drink it again, and you'’ll begin
To dream a nearly endless dream
In which you’'ll encounter your own self
Not as a druid, not as an elf
Your truthful ego, that'’s the theme.
You'’ll see the life you’'ve lived before
Your deeds, your jobs, but even more
Wishes, sweets, but also fears
You have collected within years.
Perhaps you even weren'’t aware
Of some of them, but they are there
Deep-seated inside your heart.
That’'s what dreams try to impart.
It’'s your turn now- you must decide
Whether your dreams shall stay denied
Or get the strength they need in you.
And- be sure!- that your decision will come true.

But, as I said before, Rockford doesn’'t know all this, he'’s already dreaming, not knowing what will all happen...

hehe ;) it's story-related: rockford cannot escape the big mountain. but this will stay the only story-related-unsolvable cave in the series!
