in this case a vortex is quite bad formation for stopping anyway because it's more like stepping stone to reach voodoos than a barrier :)

this cave contains a little surprise. if your solutions are as intended, you see a sort of dff of 7 fflies, imprisoned in a 5x3 box. i call it a dancing fly stagnation, since it has all properties of a dff, except that it does not move.   
this is also different from just a set of spinning flies or vortices, because all flies interact with each other and thereby keep the group together at the same location.  
  
i did think about this phenomenon earlier, but until yesterday i wasn't sure if it existed.  
  
 dustin : indeed i discovered this effect when experimenting with the cr-f5 set, as preparation for a new article.  
  
by the way, i'm considering to rename this pair of formations to glider-f5 and b5, since the moving pattern of these formations made me think of some "gliders" from conway's game of life. :-)

yes, the box is 5 wide and 3 high. it is possible that there are more solutions, but i thought with 7 fflies it is not easy...

my solution also not 5x3 box. i left one piece of dirt intact because i needed that dirt to get vortex to block the flies properly. if there's 5x3 box  Arno  probably removed all dirt either pre-contact or immediately after the contact. i'll investigate other options too and demo(s) tomorrow.

or at least a vortex is involved. visually i can only see a vortex in the upper-right corner of the box clearly. it looks like it has something to do with the fright principle, but the other fflies prevent it from moving right.

i've written an analysis of this "DFS" on the forum:

in summary:  
- there are 2 vortices, placed next to each other, with reversed timing.  
- the right vortex is broken without creating a new one;  
- the left vortex is 2 times shifted 1 position to the right like Fright-3, thereby taking over the role of the right vortex;  
- a new vortex is created at the left side of this vortex.   
so all together the group does not move.  
  
also funny: a full loop takes 70 frames!  
1 short loop = 7 phases, but since there are two role groups of 2 and 5 fflies, it needs 10 short loops to complete a long loop! :-)
