this was a very interesting challenge to design, hopefully fun to play as well.....! ;-D ;-D

very cool idea again, Arno ! i hadn't figured out the details, in particular how the two flies could be sent to the "pillar of explosions" simultaneousely. but just watching the solution is also very satsfying :d

hi shredder :)

I got tricked into thinking that flies have to "stick" to the open border somehow and go up :D

darkstoorm , i had that idea too. maybe it's even possible? there is a formation with 1bf and 1ff moving up on the open border, Arno has made a cave about it sometime!

but i guess that when the formation would move up this way, one of the flies would then loop at the ceiling...

Thanks dustin ! :-D

A little story behind this cave:

Some days ago, I showed an old cave of mine ' Arno 799 Air Bridge' to my girlfriend. While discussing the idea of transporting flies along a horizontal series of explosions, the idea of a vertical variant came to my mind. So I dicided to try out the concept, it worked out, and so I managed to create this cave out of the prototype.

If you (semi)clone this cave to the editor you can see that the fflies within the tower have various orientations. This is necessary for the tower to collapse without delay, such that the ffly/bfly run upward along the series of explosions, without cathing up the explosions and touching a voodoo.

Of course once you know the method, the remaining challenge is of course to time both flies correctly. This was a little puzzle for the creator as well! :-)

On the other hand, to help you a little bit, I placed both flies in a 3x1 cage, which assures that their loop takes 8 frames, a multiple of 4, which is also the period of the fflies trapped in the tower (spinning at their position). This is helpful because once you have found a correct timing method, you don't need to apply it at a very specific point in time. you can release the first fly after any of its loop! :-)

...and very interesting idea to move flies along an open border, not sure yet if it would work...

dustin : i think the cave you meant is 'hocus pocus iv', there the open-border-dff moves downward actually. ;-)

very nice little background story to read! so your girlfriend has "semi-joined" this site already by inspiring you for more great caves! :d

yes, i had already concluded that the fflies in the pillar must have different orientations without semi-cloning. their distance is 3, but their period is 4, which doesn't fit together! :d

ah yes, i meant that exact "hocus pocus iv" cave. although the formation moves down there, i proved in my own "arnos aliens attack!" cave that the formation can move up (or left or right) too, so it might be possible here to get both flies up that way. still, as already mentioned, one fly would probably loop at the ceiling afterwards, while the other would also be on the wrong path to be useful...

ah, now i remember that cave! :-D

well, luckily there is probably no unintended solution here due to the open border... ;-)

and yes... my girlfriend is very enthousiatic to see all nice bd creations here, and she definitely inspires me to create more! :-D

funny note: i recently realized that my cave ' Arno 1485 romantic walk' was actually my last cave before i met her, and had a romantic walk in real life.... ;-D
