amazonite is a variant of feldspar called microcline, which is an igneous tectosilicate rich in potassium. it is known for its greenish, possibly blue-greenish hue. originally believed to be the result of oxidized copper, the greenish tint is actually resultant of quantities of lead and water. later studies also implicate coexisting iron impurities as the source of the hue.

amazonite can also possess radioactive properties due to potassium decay.

It has a mohs hardness of about 6.

this one was rejected solely for the purpose that there are so many ways that things can go wrong, leaving ^ in an impossible situation. a lot of advanced planning needs to be done! the colour scheme is actually not so bad.

i just tried to find out where the name comes from. some think it's from the amazonas river, but it's unclear where the connection should be. others refer to a legend of an ancient female folk (amazones). personally, i'm convinced that the name comes from ancient egyptian people who ordered the mineral at amazon.com to makes jewels with it ;)
