Eosphorite is a maganese hydrous phosphate silicate. Normally exhibiting a brownish colour, it possesses red and even pinkish colours in the presence of light. it is derived from "eosphoric", meaning "dawn-bearing", due to this purpose.  
  
Dark browns don't really play well when accompanied with other colours, but this was almost one of these exceptions.  
  
eosphorite has a mohs hardness of 5.
