Using the editor to make or colour caves is pretty easy.

Firstly, turn on the user element list from setup\editor. Then roll-up and hide
every RnDs palette section except for mine (it helps a lot).

A blank cave is included called blank.level, but levels can be any size you like
so long as they include the top-left 4 elements. These control and watch
the amoeba, magic wall and time in general and MUST be included.

OK, the new palette's items are:- The 4 important border elements above, the game
settings, the actual game elements themselves and lastly the colour swatches.

BD84 will break if any RnDs element is placed in the cave, so to show this I made
every BD84 editor icons a grey colour....the idea is if you see any colour at all
in the edit window, then you have made a mistake. RnDs empty space is bright pink
and also an "error", as is player_1 to 4 which should never be used.

Also, every single item in BD84 can be placed in the border (like some BD hacks
I've seen) as well as the entrance and exits (as in BD3)

I won't explain every game settings, all you need to do is set the diamond count
as usual, then set other game settings (like time) using any CE that has a value in
a square bracket.....like:- "time [Set score]"....simply set the score to set the
cave time. Don't change the RnDs cave time (1 second) as this is needed!

At any point in the cave making process you can change colours for everything
quickly. Scroll the palette up to the element you want to change (each element
is split by a ---- line). Select a colour using the right mouse button, then
select the element(s) and set each one with "uses graphic of", takes a second
to do.

Some elements have multiple copies of themselves (like the boulders) and you must
set the same colour for all of them, or you'll get odd flashes of colour in the game.

You can however set different colours for items that should be the same, like a
wall and a magic wall, or even a magic wall and active magic wall.....but it looks
too colourful and breaks the illusion of BD.

You can't see the colour of the cave until you play it, but I have added a very
small test level actually in the palette at the very end! (I think that has to be
a first!) This gives you a good idea what it will look like, and is also handy for
flipping through levels.

Oh and yes, the colour picking process feels exactly like Boulderdash Construction
Kit! In other words, you can make some horrendously ugly looking caves! :-)

Have fun!

Alan.
