800x400 resolution with SDL - How?

Post by Andy1210 »

Hi,

I tried compile rocks 'n' diamonds with SDL for Nokia N900 (Maemo5 Linux)
works fine, but the lower 640x480 res (480) too big for the N900's res (400).
So unplayable...

How can i run the game with 800x400?

What do you mean by "the lower 640x480 res"? R'n'D requires a window of at least 672x560 pixels, so you won't be able to play it in a 640x480 screen resolution.

This is currently not possible at all; you will need at least a 800x600 screen resolution (or anything equal to or larger than 672x560).

But help is on its way, although still under development: Future versions will support custom screen sizes, and even though it would then still be impossible to play level sets like Zelda (which uses the above mentioned native R'n'D screen size), it would then be possible to define a custom artwork set that uses a 640x480 or 640x400 or even a 800x400 screen resolution, and to play most of R'n'D's level sets with this custom artwork set, like all the Boulder Dash, Emerald Mine, Supaplex and Sokoban levels. (It would even be possible to compile a special version of R'n'D to use this artwork set as a default, just like "R'n'D jue" is a special version of R'n'D that also uses a special, custom default artwork set.)

The very next version of R'n'D (coming soon) won't have these screen resolution extensions available yet, but I expect to have them available in the next but one version (not counting pure bugfix releases).
