I recommend that if you do this work, you go all the way to having separate high score lists for each [ levelset, level, number-of-players ] tuple. recently i played the actual dos version a bit. for reference, the correct behavior in the situation i posted (going through a one-way road that becomes blocked at the end) is that the player doesn't emerge at all and is considered to be dead.
